Petals on the Street: An Empire State of Street Style

If you follow B+B on twitter, then you already know that we ran up to NYC for the weekend.  We went for a concert and to try out a restaurant that I stumbled upon grâce à the interwebs, but that post will be up later.  For right now, here is a look at some of our favourite street style looks that we spotted this weekend.  You might have already seen them in our PotS album on facebook, and now here is the full breakdown of our four favourites:

Vacationing in the city, these two brought some serious eastern european inspiration for street style.  Sticking to light colors and fabrics was a must this weekend, with temperatures in the upper 90s and weather making it feel even hotter.  I love her monochromatic outfit, going all white everything, with a pop of color via those red moccasins.  She also gets bonus points for tastefully pulling off a sheer top in the daytime by sticking with a modest cut and brassiere to balance the dare to almost bare.

Waiting in line for a concert at the Summer Stage in Central Park, we snapped these two who weren't afraid to pose in front of the camera.  Spotted: fun personalities to match fun summer looks!  The short hair and milkmaid braid were perfect for the summer heat, and their black sunnies added a hint of classic chic to their casually cool outfits.  By combining solid crop tops with these printed shorts and overalls, it's not just their poses that have perfect balance!

California dreaming: this couple recently moved to the city from San land but made sure to bring their cali-cool style with them.  The first thing we loved: the hair!  It is a beautiful balance of edgy and well-kept, with their smooth cuts.  The colors in her printed skirt create a flow between the shades of her striped shirt (the cardinal rule of mixing prints) and the tan sandals.  His button down and rolled-cuff shorts are clean cut but still casual for a Sunday afternoon.  And their footwear!  Between her tan sandals and socks showing out of his kicks, their beachy-keen look was perfect for a summer day in the city and makes them look like they're right at home from head to toe.

Just as we were wrapping up our trip, we spotted these very fashionable femmes who looked absolutely edgy chic on the lower east side.  My favourite pieces of their outfits, the T-shirt dress and the animal print leggings, were both from shops in LA while the spotted street stylees themselves were visiting the states from Australia.  The lesson to take from their looks?  There are different ways to rock edgy chic! A tough T and fun leggings or pants gets dressed up with bangles, red nails, and platform shoes; roll-cuffed sleeves and more shining accessories turn a bold graphic T into a cool dress look for a summer day.  Thumbs up to these ladies from the land down under!

A full run down of the highlights (beyond these fabulous looks we spotted on the streets) from this past weekend in the city- including a review for one of my new favourite restaurants- will be coming this weekend.

Going Goldie Locks during the Holiday Season

For the holiday festivities, I have been ALL about the gold.  It is such a fun color and always boosts my fashion-confidence when I'm out because the shiny shade is just so inviting!  I just went to a holiday party last night, and wore this outfit:
I sported a Charlotte Russe sweater, Claire's gold ribbon earrings, olive Union Bay military-esque pants (belted with a wide gold gift wrapping ribbon!), and my Madden Girl nude pumps

Funny angle here makes me look a little bloated haha But the Charlotte Russe sweater is actually really cute on!  Do you see the wrapping ribbon I used as a belt?

Here's another look at the outfit top of the outfit- because the sweater has such a bold collar, I pulled my hair back in a ballerina bun.  For the makeup (easiest to see in the top picture), I did a gold/brown smokey eye.

Hope this inspires you to go for the gold!
