Magenta in Milan

There have been so many great shows this Spring/Summer 2014 season!  As anticipated, there has been a vast variety in the cut and structure from show to show with similarities in the use of whites, creams, and bold blacks as the base for the SS14 looks.  One trend that I am really enjoying and noticed was especially prevalent in Milan shows was the use of Magenta on the models.  Whether they were draped in this bold color or just highlighted with hints and accented accessories, it seemed to be a recurring hue.  Here are some of my favorite magenta incorporations from the runway:

Take note from Milan and trade in some of your old oxblood for one of the many modes and moods of magenta this spring/summer!

Petals on the Street: An Empire State of Street Style

If you follow B+B on twitter, then you already know that we ran up to NYC for the weekend.  We went for a concert and to try out a restaurant that I stumbled upon grâce à the interwebs, but that post will be up later.  For right now, here is a look at some of our favourite street style looks that we spotted this weekend.  You might have already seen them in our PotS album on facebook, and now here is the full breakdown of our four favourites:

Vacationing in the city, these two brought some serious eastern european inspiration for street style.  Sticking to light colors and fabrics was a must this weekend, with temperatures in the upper 90s and weather making it feel even hotter.  I love her monochromatic outfit, going all white everything, with a pop of color via those red moccasins.  She also gets bonus points for tastefully pulling off a sheer top in the daytime by sticking with a modest cut and brassiere to balance the dare to almost bare.

Waiting in line for a concert at the Summer Stage in Central Park, we snapped these two who weren't afraid to pose in front of the camera.  Spotted: fun personalities to match fun summer looks!  The short hair and milkmaid braid were perfect for the summer heat, and their black sunnies added a hint of classic chic to their casually cool outfits.  By combining solid crop tops with these printed shorts and overalls, it's not just their poses that have perfect balance!

California dreaming: this couple recently moved to the city from San land but made sure to bring their cali-cool style with them.  The first thing we loved: the hair!  It is a beautiful balance of edgy and well-kept, with their smooth cuts.  The colors in her printed skirt create a flow between the shades of her striped shirt (the cardinal rule of mixing prints) and the tan sandals.  His button down and rolled-cuff shorts are clean cut but still casual for a Sunday afternoon.  And their footwear!  Between her tan sandals and socks showing out of his kicks, their beachy-keen look was perfect for a summer day in the city and makes them look like they're right at home from head to toe.

Just as we were wrapping up our trip, we spotted these very fashionable femmes who looked absolutely edgy chic on the lower east side.  My favourite pieces of their outfits, the T-shirt dress and the animal print leggings, were both from shops in LA while the spotted street stylees themselves were visiting the states from Australia.  The lesson to take from their looks?  There are different ways to rock edgy chic! A tough T and fun leggings or pants gets dressed up with bangles, red nails, and platform shoes; roll-cuffed sleeves and more shining accessories turn a bold graphic T into a cool dress look for a summer day.  Thumbs up to these ladies from the land down under!

A full run down of the highlights (beyond these fabulous looks we spotted on the streets) from this past weekend in the city- including a review for one of my new favourite restaurants- will be coming this weekend.

Petals on the Street: June 28

Check out the latest additions to Petals on the Street, my snaps of street style while out and about.  My favorite looks were all found around Federal Triangle in D.C.
You can probably see in the background, but it was pouring rain all afternoon!  Check out how these PotS stay stylish despite the downpour:

Love all of this outfit, from head to toe!  The balance of a bright, summery blazer with deep blue, oxblood, and mahogany accents, plus the fun tie win this guy "chicest intern of the day"!
Monochromatic color schemes and flowy summer dresses?  That's a rainy June day done right!
More deep browns and oxblood?  Love the way she paired those rich colors with a bright Kate Spade bag and tasteful animal print flats!
A friendly face!  Mon amie was helping me while I snapped these street style shots, but I had to add her to the list because I love her tangerine dress and light cardigan.  With her pastel green and yellow accessories, this outfit is perfect for summer and stood up to the rain showers.

Fête de la Musique 2013: Quelles Bonnes Tenues!

Once again, the French Embassy played host to a wonderful Fête de la Musique this past Sarurday.  The House of France, or La Maison Française, in Washington, D.C. co-organized the event with the French-American Cultural Foundation to bring a taste of France to the states and to celebrate World Music Day on the summer solstice.

Between the talented artists, delicious spread of food and drinks, and wonderful musical performances, this certainly was a night to remember.  And on top of all of the fun happenings, there was another aspect to be appreciated: the attendees!  Everywhere we turned, there was inspiration for summer style that just had to be shared.  Here are some of my favorite looks that we captured at the event:

So many great summer looks!  My favorite trends at the festival were: (1) fun stripes and chevron, (2) white and pastels with khaki, (3) pops of reds, pinks, and oranges.
